Good morning, dear judges, I am candidate number X. It’s my great honor
to share my lesson with you. Now I will begin my class.

Good morning~ my dear class. Nice to see you again! How are you doing
today? Happy? Pretty good? I’m good, too. Thank you for asking. Then,

Now, class, let’s look at the picture, what can you see? Aha, it’s a map of
England? UK? Britain? Haha, I heard different expressions. They all refer
to the country. But do you know the full name of it? It’s the United
Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Wow, such a long
name, right? So why does the UK have a name like this? How does the
name come into being? Today we’ll learn a passage about it. Please open
your book and turn to page 40. Let’s read the title together: “What’s in a
Name.”

So can you guess what’s in the name of “the United Kingdom of Great
Britain and Northern Ireland”? The history of UK, the formation of the

Step 1:
Now class, let’s look at the passage, please read it quickly to check your
predictions and tell me how many parts can it be divided into and what’s
the main idea of each part. 3’ Go! Time’s up! So who wanna to share? Yes,
Aby. Great, 3 parts. What are they? Part 1 is para 1, about, yeah, people’s
puzzle about the name of UK. And part 2 is from para 2 to para 4, yeah,
the British history. More specifically, 4 names, 4 countries and 4 groups
are mentioned in each para. And the last part, para 5, the importance of
learning history. Wonderful job!
Step 2:
In para1, we know many people are confused by what the different
names mean. Then,let’s see how did the four name come into being.
Please read para 2 and draw a timeline to express it. 3’,go! Time’s up.
Who wanna to share? Michael, you pleasse. In 16th century, Wales was
joined to the Kingdom of England. And then, yes, in 18th century, Scotland
was joined to create the Kingdom of Great Britain. In the 19th century,
Yes, the Kingdom of Ireland was added to create the United Kingdom of
Great Britain and Ireland. Finally, in the 20th century, yes, the southern
part of Ireland broke away from the UK, so the full name, yes, the United
Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland formed. We can see the
